Class Dojo has been quickly implemented in the classroom as a quick and easy way to communicate with parents about everything that is going on inside the classroom. Some of the many features of the APP included is a messaging system to instantly communicate with parents. This system allows teachers to contact parents all hours of the day without a phone call. This can be especially useful in cases of school closure due to power outages or other events which require the parents to be instantly notified. Rather than relying on trying to call them during work and “catch them” and 20+ other parents at the same time. One of the other useful tools of the APP is the classroom update. This allows teachers to take photos of what the children are doing in the classroom and post it to classdojo similar to facebook. This way parents can actually see what the children are doing rather than asking the same old question, “how was school today? Do anything interesting?” and receiving the boring answer, “no not really.” Now parents can see exactly what their children are doing and have better communication with the teacher. This APP can also be used to send reminders for events or last minute changes, “Sorry, instead of green please wear a red shirt for the school program tomorrow.” The APP is quick and easy to use. The best part though it is free with school budget cuts it is important for school districts to take advantage. There is absolutely no reason for any teacher to not use Class Dojo. The children love it they get to choose their own avatar, message the teacher questions any hour of the day, and receive positive reinforcement with acknowledgment from a point system when they are doing what they are supposed to be doing in the classroom. The parents can also see that their children are doing a good job from the point system with exact precision, “Oh at 10:22 Johnny was rewarded a point for helping others. What were they doing at the time? O making a cutout and Johnny helped a classmate cut theirs for them.” This APP brings the parents into the classroom and helps build a better more positive relationship.
