End Citizens United started creating news with its fight against big money in politics for quite a long time. It already declared that the PAC wanted maximum campaign finance reform supporters in the house after 2018 Congress election. Recently, it came with a strategy of specifically targeting 20 conservative Congress members in the upcoming election. The PAC has named them as “Big Money 20,” and it describes the Republican members as representatives who gave priority to the special interest groups by letting down their constituents. Strangely, these representatives are found to be accepting bigger donations from dark money groups and either helping them by opposing finance reform or backing legislation benefiting those money groups.
The list included two Senate members, the House Speaker Paul Ryan, and 17 Congress representatives. According to usatoday.com Tiffany Muller, the PAC’s Executive Director, confirmed that these representatives are the worst of the bad in Congress. The PAC had already spoken its mind that it wanted to raise a minimum of $35 million for the re-election bid of 2018, which is considered to be $10 million more compared to $25 million raised in the 2016 Presidential Election. While a majority of them are facing a tough challenge this time, Cruz or Ryan found to be less vulnerable by independent election analysts. Considering its goal, vision, and message it wants to give to the people, the PAC has set a contribution limit of $5000 per individual.

It means that the PAC is not encouraging any large donations but smaller contributions from its over 3 million members. It also conveys the message of people that they want to change the system. Interestingly, this is the message that is taken into the hearts of both Democrats and a significant number of independents. Pollster Al Quinlan, a political research group, confirmed that reducing the influence of big donor groups in elections is a top priority of the majority of independent voters. Also, big money in politics type of campaign is creating waves in the election strategies. A recent research found that election finance reform message is influencing people compared to traditional Democratic messaging – something which ECU wanted, said Muller.
End Citizens United was established by a group of progressive thinking political activists in the year 2015. They found that the Citizens United verdict issued by the Supreme Court in 2010 created a big setback to independent and transparent politics and election system. The verdict gave access for the dark money groups to the election system and granted them permission of uncontrolled spending. In the recent years, a large section of people has identified that the system has rigged against them after the verdict. Because of that, End Citizens United is receiving a grand welcome from the people and became one of the largest PACs in the country with the biggest network of grass root level volunteers.
