Richard Mishaan Design is something that many consider to be a paragon of excellence in juxtaposition that many strive to emulate, but few come close to achieving the level of uniqueness that he is able to produce. That has been the opinion of even some of the hardest to impress critics, and he has had his work adorn the pages of Architectural Digest as well as the pages of many other renowned names in the industry. Artfully Modern is the title of his 2014 monograph which is a detailed study of his style and form.
He makes his living and upholds his name through his eponymous design company which specializes in interior design, architecture and landscape architecture. Elle Decor and AD both honor RMD through their list of leading names which is respected as much in the industry as any other around. The firm has worked closely with a myriad of well known names to customize living spaces that are exciting as they are livable, and this has included celebrities and high-ranking commercial firms all the same.
He and his wife Marcia Rolfe Mishaan have called a spot on 5th Avenue in New York overlooking Central Park their home for some time now. The fine furniture and art that would probably otherwise be found in a museum somewhere give testament to their true instinct for creative greatness and vision that spaces can be both beautiful and functional in the same time and space. His wife says that he uses the apartment like a lab in order to try out new ideas and concepts to see what type of reaction he gets in both his inner self and in others.
Currently, Richard Mishaan Design is hosting a decorator show house at called Kip’s Bay at 125 East 65th Street, and it is there where the designers that he works with continue to display what just cannot be seen anywhere else and has to be seen to be appreciated. His books are a great introduction to his work, and as such they should be tons of inspiration for anyone looking to approach his prestige.
