Socialism has been a controversial subject for the people of the U.S. for a number of decades since the height of the Cold War. One of the concerns of many who have been watching the 2016 U.S. Presidential elections closely in recent months is the rise of Independent Senator Bernie Sanders and his decision to describe himself as a Democratic Socialist, a term which has caused problems for many political commentators.
Thor Halvorssen explained his belief that Senator Sanders has been correct in his view that socialism can be a positive influence on the lives of many when its more powerful policies are combined with mainstream political choices. Halvorssen pointed to a number of Scandinavian countries where socialist policies have been integrated into a democratic system of political beliefs; Sweden, Denmark, and Norway were three countries mentioned by Halvorssen as showing just how the ideals of socialism can be intertwined with traditional policies in a positive way for the people of these nations.
To close the interview Thor Halvorssen explained his own opinion on the politics of the U.S. Presidential elections, which would reveal the film producer has made his own choice of the best candidate for the position of Commander-In-Chief. The choice made by Thor Halvorssen not only reflected his own view that Bernie Sanders is the prefect candidate for the role, but also showed the unhappiness the film producer has with the other candidates available on both sides of the two party system; Thor Halvorssen explained the links Democrat Hilary Clinton has to the leaders of closed societies around the world through her political choices and the Clinton Foundation made her a candidate he could not back. Turning his attention to the Republican side of the election Halvorssen went on to explain he found himself unable to back probable nominee Donald Trump after his racially charged rhetoric during the nomination process.
